Marking not authorized for period MMM / YYYY in company code XXXX is occurred while You are trying to mark materials for period MMM / YYYY and company code XXXX, although marking has not been allowed for this.

SAP Error Message no. CK701 will be shown up.

If you have the authorization to do so, you must first of all allow marking for a costing variant that is provided for in Legal Valuation, as an organizational measure for the period 005 2010 in company code XXXX. Check Organizational Measure (CK22 transaction) or Marking Allownce button in CK24 transaction for each material

If you click on the company code or valuation view in the list screen of the organizational measure, either the permitted standard cost estimate variants are displayed, or, if marking has not yet been allowed, you receive a request to carry out the organizational measure.

The differences between CK11N and CK40N Transaction

The differences between SAP Transaction: CK11N and CK40N. Normally, There is nothing like which SAP transaction is better. They are entirely used for difference purposes.

CK11N :

CK11N transaction is used to calculate the standard cost estimate of the product, for a individual material. The system considers the BOM structure and valuation strategy and control mention in the costing variant and calculates the standard cost of the material. Cost estimate is run or the standard cost is calculated monthly, quarterly etc. and all the analasys of actual production is based against this standard estimate.

You can use this to create the cost estimate for any variant to be used but this will only create a cost estimate. Subsequently you will have to mark and release these estiamtes in CK24 to update in the material master so that you can use the same as the planned price for the materials.

CK40N :

CK40N transaction is used to update the prices in the material master. It is done by marking and releasing the cost estimate which is calcualted. When marking is done, the system will update the price of the material in the material master in costing 2 fields in the future price. when release is done then the SAP system will update the current standard price in the costing 2 fields. All the postings will then use the price which is updated.

Suppose you have more than 1000 materials in your plant, you do not need to go to CK11N transaction and create for the materials indivually, you can schedule all these jobs for creation, marking and releasing for all the 1000 materials as a background job.

To check the pricing results, CK11N transaction is used. CK40N transaction is used for updating the prices in material master.

We might say that:

CK11N is for Single Material and
CK40N is for Multiple Materials.

It could be to run all the materials in a plant or Co.Code or only part of them etc.

CK11N transaction requires one more Activity (CK24 transaction) to update the price where as in CK40N transaction, every thing is scheduled till Price Release.

The additional feature in CK40N transaction is, If you have error logs, you will get a better picture in CK40N transaction and not in CK11N transaction

There is nothing that prevents you to run CK40N transaction even for single material.
